Bristol City
Swindon Town 1 CITY 0
Story by Ciderjar
2004-11-30

No Christian Roberts who had a car accident today, he is okay but unable to play. Steve Book a 19 year old keeper, is given a start for Swindon. Danny Coles suspended, Steve Brooker cup-tied and Tony Dinning back at Wigan. City field Kevin Amankwaah in place of Jamie Smith. Paul Heffernan gets another start. Lee Miller is absent sick.

A good cross from Wilkshire surprises both Heffernan and Lita. Brooker may have done better.

Steve Phillips punches away awkwardly as Swindon threaten.

Lita attempting to round the keeper causes a panicked clearance from Steve Book, the young Swindon keeper, for the first corner of the game. Scott Murray has a shot blocked by the defence. At the other end Brian Tinnion is rushed into conceding a corner for Swindon. They force a second which comes to nothing. At the other end a Bell cross is dealt with well by the Swindon defence.

Amankwaah and Butler are defending well for City as the game livens up, no shots from either side in the first 15 minutes though.

Good work from Tinnion and Amankwaah down the right, a good first time cross from Amankwaah is met by a diving header from Scott Murray just wide. Luke Wilkshire has a long range effort straight at Steve Book.

Lita wins a corner staying on his feet where others may have dived for a penalty. The corner comes to nothing. Half an hour gone in an even contest with only one shot on target.

Brian Tinnion tries a lob from 40 yards but the keeper has it covered. Scott Murray is put through by Brian Tinnion but Steve Book comes out of his area and clears well. Leroy Lita puts Scott Murray in whose shot is well saved by Steve Book again. The corner flashes low across the penalty area but comes to nothing. Scott Murray seems to be at the top of his form.

Mickey Bell puts Paul Heffernan in but he is tackled for another corner, which comes to nothing. Matty Hill sweeps up a Swindon break. A break by Rory Fallon leads to a shot by Brian Howard which Steve Phillips does well to save with the defence sleeping.

Leroy Lita breaks clear on goal and puts Scott Murray in, his first shot is saved and the follow up is blocked by Jerel Ifil when Murray maybe should have scored. Swindon force a third corner, partially cleared by Tony Butler and Robinson volleys well over.

A cross from Mickey Bell is headed into the ground by Leroy Lita and comfortably saved. Brian Tinnion clears for a corner as Swindon continue to be a threat from set pieces. Paul Heffernan is put through by Luke Wilkshire but has strayed offside.

As half time approaches Swindon have had most of the possession but City have created the best chances. Andrew Nicholas heads over for Swindon. With no injury time necessary the referee blows for half time.

HT 0-0

Steve Phillips makes a comfortable save from a deflected shot from Brian Howard. Paul Heffernan is put through and is about to shoot when tackled well by Jerel Ifil. The Gas take the lead against Wycombe.

City have brought 1,681 fans to the County Ground. The official attendance is given as 7,571.

Sam Parkin sees a shot from 18 yards land on the top of the net. Tommy Doherty is lucky not to be booked for mouthing off to the ref. AQ slow start to the second half, neither side wanting to concede. A Heffernan shot is deflected wide for the first corner of the second half. It comes to nothing as seems to be usual. Swindon break and Tony Butler does well to concede a corner.

A Heffernan cross is put behind for a corner. Swindon break away and Nicholas squares to Sam Parkin who scores.

1-0 (64 mins)

One of Citys muppet "fans" gets himself arrested as they do their best Rupert the Bear impersonations. Sam Parkin just fails to turn another cross in and it goes wide. Leroy Lita goes down in the box and is booked for diving. Good work by Brian Tinnion on the left leads to a Leroy Lita shot on target well saved by the keeper. Heffernan has a shot well saved as City pile the pressure on for an equaliser.

Sean O'Hanlon comes on for Alan Reeves for Swindon with 17 minutes left. Leroy Lita wins a free kick 25 yards from goal from which Mickey Bell hits the post. A break from Sammy Igoe leads to Brian Tinnion conceding a corner. A long shot from Steve Robinson goes well wide but wastes more time with only ten minutes left. Kevin Amankwaah and Scott Murray combine well on the right but Amankwaah over hits the final pass when Scott Murray was almost in.

Joe Anyinsah comes on for Mickey Bell and Scott Brown comes on for Luke Wilkshire as City change to a 3-4-3 formation. Scott Murray just fails to control a defence splitting ball from Brian Tinnion. City win a freekick from about 20 yards for handball. Tinnion shoots over. Rory Fallon is replaced by Grant Smith as Swindon look to shut up shop with 2 minutes left. Steven Gillespie comes on for Matty Hill as City abandon all thoughts of defence.

Ciuty have played well but look to be heading out of their last cup competition as we enter 3 minutes of injury time. I can't say I am too disappointed and all efforts can now be expended on the league. City force a corner for their last chance of the game. Tommy Doherty connects poorly with the corner. City continue to press to no avail.

A possible penalty not given and Mickey Bell hitting the post but thankfully no extra time and penalties.

FT 1-0
