Gerrard to return sooner than expected?

Anthony Gerrard had to leave the game at Wigan due to a severe knee injury. The centre half had to miss the Blackpool draw and will also be out for Saturday's visit from Gillingham, who are second in the table. The initial diagnosis indicates that Gerrard could be out for a long time but manager John Sheridan is hoping that he can progress quickly and get back to action.

Sheridan said, “We wait and see. It is not too serious, I don’t think. Whether it is a week or two or whatever, he’s in the hands of the physio. It was a strong bench at Blackpool. Connor Brown wasn’t even on it and Brian Wilson will be back soon, I feel I have a strong-enough squad. Hopefully whatever eleven I pick will get us the result we are after.”
