Hughes and Hazell push for return

Lee Hughes (pictured) and Reuben Hazell could both return to Athletic's squad for the trip to Leyton Orient tomorrow. The Latics gained a creditable point in a 0-0 midweek draw at Nottingham Forest and with better finishing could have come away with all three points. The return of Hughes could be the answer to their current lack of firepower.

Hughes is returning from a double hernia operation but has had a full week of training, although he is still lacking match fitness as this week's reserve game had to be cancelled due to the FA Youth Cup tie against Wrexham being staged at Boundary Park.

Hazell could step straight into the team after recovering from a hamstring injury although the central defensive pairing of Neal Trotman and Stefan Stam at Nottingham could be given another chance as they kept a clean sheet in the game at the City Ground. It is expected that Hughes will be put on the bench for tomorrows trip.
