McCarthy quick to congratulate

Mick McCarthy was quick to congratulate the Latics on a stirring performance in the FA Cup third round replay at Boundary Park. A relieved McCarthy admitted, "We were poor in the first half, and Oldham were the better side before the break. Their two lads down the left, particularly Chris Taylor, were giving us some problems. The second half was a lot better, and we deserved to go through. The penalty decision was possibly contentious, and at the time I thought we'd got away with it, although the assistant referee had the best view and didn't give it."

"Darren Potter has been terrific and I'm delighted we were able to sign him. When the ball dropped he didn't half nail it, a fantastic effort. There was a bit of an argument going on after the game as to who scored the second goal, which is good as we haven't scored that many goals to argue about so far."
