McDonald praises travelling army

Latics goal hero Gary McDonald paid tribute to Athletic's travelling supporters after the dramatic win at Everton. He said, "Some of the goals we've scored recently have been unbelievable, but even if it goes in off someone's backside and we win 1-0 it makes absolutely no difference. The ball sat up nicely for me for the goal, and I thought to myself I would have a hit and try and get it on target. The feeling when it hit the back of the net was unbelievable. I've been getting some stick from the lads for my celebration, apparently it's the fastest I've moved all season! But I just wanted to celebrate with our fans because 5,500 of them were there giving it their all and they were our twelfth man today. It gives you such a boost when you come out and see that many of our supporters in the ground. You want to put on a good display so as to not let them down. Now they'll go home happy and so will we."

"We played really well today, and although we rode our luck a little early on Everton didn't create too much after that. We looked a threat going forward and defended well as a team to hang on 1-0, we're all chuffed. We've lost a few players through injury and suspension, but the lads who stepped in were different class. This is unbelievable, it was a great feeling, a great performance and a great result."
