Sheridan angry and disappointed

Latics boss John Sheridan had to watch his team drop another two valuable points against Brighton at Boundary Park. Once a fortress, the home ground is becoming too easy to steal points away from. The Seagulls were reduced to ten men in the ninth after Dean Hammond was sent off for serious foul play against Deane Smalley. Lee Hughes (pictured) gave Athletic the lead in the 40th. minute lead when he scored his eighth goal of the season but Brighton snatched a dramatic equaliser in the final minute when Elder scored.

Sheridan was obviously angry and disappointed yet again and he told the official website, "I'm not happy with the way we played, and I don't expect that from the players. This was a great opportunity to climb three or four places in the league, especially as they had a man sent off after ten minutes. As happy as I was at Everton, I'm very, very frustrated today. We didn't look as if we knew how to use the ball, and you could see we missed a player in the middle of the park dictating the game. We didn't keep possession for long enough with ten men, and when the ball went forward it just kept on coming back."

"When we went one-nil up the game should have been won. It should have been over. Full credit to Brighton as they still tried to play with ten men, but we weren't at the races. I'm not pleased at all. I'll be sorting one or two things out and I will definitely be bringing players in, definitely. We looked leggy and didn't use the ball well enough. When you're at home you've got to have a bit of character because you're going to get plenty of the ball. We chose the wrong option too many times and didn't move the ball quickly enough against ten men."
