Latics’ s striker Sam Surridge popped a brace of goals on Saturday at Grimsby but insisted that the three points for the team was the main focus.

He explained, “It was a hard one first half, we didn’t play the best and I didn’t help the team at all first half, but we grinded it out and we got the three points in the end which is the main thing. When I'm not playing at my best I want to contribute by scoring and that’s what the gaffer told me at half time. He told me, 'It isn’t going for you at the moment, but you need to put it right second half' and I did thankfully.’”

“He (Bunny) had a lot to say at half time, especially to me, but it got the reaction out of us and we got three goals in the second half, so it worked. We sat down after the Newport game and he showed me clips and stuff that I can work on which I tried to apply to this game. He wasn’t too happy with it first half, but we came out in the second half and showed our true quality as a team. The support was brilliant, obviously this was my first away game, so I wanted to put on a performance, so I was happy in the end. I think I’ve settled in really well, the gaffers helped me do that and the lads are nice to me as well, so I really like the club and like living here as well so I'm enjoying my time here.”
