Peterborough snatch equaliser

The Latics earned a creditable draw at Peterborough on Saturday to help secure their position in League One. They are now three points clear of relegation with seven games to play. Lee Erwin scored early in the game with the Posh getting an equaliser with 20 minutes remaining. John Sheridan felt a draw although he was disappointed that they could not hold on for all three points.

He said, “We’ve picked up a point away from home against a very good footballing side so I’ll take it. A draw was a fair result but I wouldn’t say we were the better team. We could have won it. I think we should have seen the game out a little bit better and control the game a little bit more. I was getting a little bit frustrated on the sidelines. We get the goal and usually when we score, we have done well and usually gone on to win the game but it’s disappointing. There are too many misplaced passes and not taking care of the ball. I feel as though today too many players were allowing each other to do the wrong things and the only voice they can hear is mine. I wish someone would sort it out on the pitch but I don’t want to be hard on them. I thought it was a hard fought game after a good result on Tuesday night and two hard games. We could have won it in the second half but I’m just disappointed with their game. We move on now and concentrate on the next game.”

“When I watch Paul Green, who has made over 500 career appearances, since he’s come in, he has left everything on the pitch in every game he’s played. He won’t be the best player on the pitch but he knows what he’s doing for the team. You need them players and that’s why he’s played the amount of games he has. Some players are just happy to go by with things at times and he’s had a good career because he’s hungry. We have a couple with knocks so we’ll just have to assess them and see how they are.”
