A new face in tonight's line up?

Chris Porter, the 21-year-old leading marksman of neighbours Bury, could soon become a Latics player. Ronnie Moore believes that 6’-3” Porter (pictured) could add a huge physical presence to his lighweight attack. Moore told the Chronicle, “Porter is a long way from being proven, but he has potential and could make us stronger. I would like to bring him in permanently, although I’m not against signing him on loan and taking things from there.”

Bury are deep in financial trouble and recently sold David Nugent to Preston for £100,000. Porter is good at laying on chances for other strikers and the likes of Killen and Vernon could profit from his hustle and bustle style of play. Porter has notched seven goals in 25 appearances for Bury this season. Moore would really like to have a new face in the starting line up to face Brentford tonight and has not yet given up on the possibility of bringing Fulham’s Elvis Hammond into the fold.

Moore went on about the reluctance of some players to get involved in a relegation scrap when he said, “There are experienced players who just don’t want to know about the pressure of coming here. They would rather stay where they are and play easy reserve games, which I find very surprising. They would benefit from coming here because it would mean other clubs were taking a look at them. They would probably agree to come if we were in mid-table, but I suppose signing for Oldham at the moment is a test of their bottle and commitment.”
