A tale of two Lee's

Oldham Athletic have issued an official statement that appears to show that Rob Lee's "career" at Latics is at an end. The former England midfielder played one game for Oldham in the LDV Vans trophy against Hartlepool. He was left out of the starting eleven for Saturday's FA Cup tie with Leyton Orient, so went back to Essex to consider his future with the club.

Oldham have since issued a statement saying that Rob only came to the club to aid in an injury crisis, and since then that crisis has gone. Brian Talbot managed to bring in midfielders Neil Kilkenny and Lee Croft into the squad, so Lee has decided to "step aside". The statement did say, however, that he would be "on standby if needed."

Hopefully he won't be needed, as Lee Croft would like to extend his loan period with Latics. Whilst at Boundary Park the Manchester City winger has bagged two Man of the Match awards and two goals as well, and Oldham have stayed unbeaten during Croft's loan spell.

Lee has said he would like to stay for at least another month, and play against Manchester City for Oldham in the FA Cup. Lee said that "I have enjoyed my month at Boundary Park. It has been a great experience and the team winning has certainly helped. Croft conceded, however, that it was up to Kevin Keegan whether he got the chance to extend his loan, which expires this week.

Kevin, please let us keep him! Please! For a year or two!
