Abbott signs

Latics boss Dave Penney has secured the services of Pawel Abbott, the former Darlington player who worked with Penney while he was at the Quakers. Abbott returned from a summer holiday in Poland and has signed a two-year deal.

Abbott told Latics World, "The fact that I've worked with the manager before was one of the main reasons behind me coming here. I've worked with the gaffer before and he's a no-nonsense character, which suits me well and I like the training sessions he and Martin Gray put together. I know what the manager is all about and I know I and the other players will enjoy working with him."

"The move's been on for most of the summer, but it was agreed it was best if I came over a few days before pre-season. I had spoken to a few other clubs but I know that this move is right one for me personally and for my footballing career. Obviously my number one aim is to get as many goals as possible, but I don't really like to say what kind of game I bring. I'd rather let the fans decide for themselves. I played with Rob Purdie last season and I know Sean Gregan from Preston. I'm really looking forward to getting things going on Monday."
