Abysmal display in home loss

Athletic but in an abysmal display as they went down 0-2 in the home game against Yeovil Town. Former Latics striker Paul Warne (pictured) rubbed salt into the wounds by hitting the Glover's crucial second goal after he brilliantly controlled Craig Alcock's long ball forward and slid the ball under Mark Crossley. However, Warne should be congratulated for the fact that he didn't over-celebrate his goal. The visitors extended their unbeaten run to four games and also kept their third successive clean sheet and have now not conceded a goal for 283 minutes.

John Sheridan stated the obvious in his after match press conference when he said that his team "must do better." Although they had the lions share of possession they couldn't take their chances and the Latics faithful had to suffer an "after the Lord Mayor's Ball" result as they had been in devastating form in their previous match when they hammered league leaders Scunthorpe United by 3-0.

The disappointed Sheridan told Latics World, "It's very frustrating because if we'd scored first we would have gone on to win the game, no danger. We had opportunities to do that but didn't take them. I'm saying it again - we must look at the manner of the goals we conceded. It just wasn't to be. Things didn't go our way and we didn't play well today, but we should still be taking something from the game."

"We switched off for both goals; they were very sloppy and we must do better. Everyone knows what their jobs are. Apart from hitting the bar, I don't think Yeovil troubled us too much yet they've gone away 2-0 winners. I just feel it didn't go our way today, which is disappointing given the result in midweek. We just didn't get going."
