Another dull performance

The Latics put in another lack lustre performance to gain a point at home against a poor Crewe side at Boundary Park on Saturday. After three defeats it could be claimed to be an improvement but in reality it was another inept performance. Manager Lee Johnson tried to look for the positives and appreciated the way his side fought back to claim the point.

In optimistic mood Johnson said, “I am happy with a point after conceding first again. We didn’t look great in the first half and you can’t carry four or five players having really poor games. At half-time I thought I had to change the shape. It created some natural angles for us and in putting James Dayton in the hole, he became dangerous. It got us a goal and we tried to get a winner. We had four or five really good chances in the game. It is disappointing: it was a game we felt we could win. But it was good to stop the rot and get a point and we can build on that now.”

“Wesolowski was magnificent. He was in the mix all the time. Charlie ran his socks off, as ever, and he will be disappointed he didn’t score in the first half. That’s two for him now; hopefully, he can have a run and get more.”
