Another loss

Athletic slipped to defeat for the second time in as many matches with their first home reverse 0-1 of the season against Port Vale. The match was an evenly balanced affair but the Latics are still missing that killer punch in front of goal and that was the deciding factor. They continued from the Tranmere game with their impressive build up play but the team are crying out for a goalscorer.

John Sheridan completed the signing of defender Simon Charlton from Norwich City just before the game but he is still lacking the final piece of the jigsaw. Someone in the mould of Bobby Charlton might fit the bill and he hopes to bring in the elusive striker before Saturday's home game against Swansea. The crowd was disappointing but to their credit they continued to support the team whereas last season they would have been on the players backs.
