Appleby leaves Latics for Darlington.

As earlier thought on Latics mad, Matty Appleby (

has left. The midfielder, who turns 33 next month, has had his contract terminated by Athletic. This left him free to join Darlington in time for him to play for the League Two side against Yeovil Town tomorrow.

It's a case of deja vu for Appleby, who joined the Quakers permanently in June 1994 before leaving for Barnsley in August 1996.

He has only played 39 times for Latics since moving here permanently in January 2002, mainly because of some pretty horrific injury problems which almost match Chris Killen's in length and quantity.

In all, Appleby started 36 times for Oldham and came on as a substitute 10 times.
