Assistant manager appointed

John Sheridan has appointed former Sheffield Wednesday teammate Peter Shirtliff as his assistant manager. The 54-year-old former central defender made over 500 appearances as a player and scored 15 goals. Shirtliff was previously manager of Mansfield Town and held assistant manager jobs at Tranmere Rovers, Swindon Town and Bury.

Sheridan said, “I know him well from my Sheffield Wednesday days but he’s a good assistant manager and knows the game inside out. He’s done well in this division with Danny Wilson. He’s been a manager and assistant at Bury and Mansfield and he was an excellent defensive player. He will help us be more organised and I’m delighted to get him. He can’t be here for Saturday unfortunately but he will be here for the Shrewsbury game.”
