Latics reserves beat Bury reserves 2-0 at Boundary Park on Wednesday night to go through to the final of the Manchester Senior Cup. Will Haining scored both Latics goals after being pushed into an emergency centre forward role following injuries to Craig Dudley and triallist Colin McNemanim. Haining's 1st came after 64 minutes and his 2nd followed less than quarter of an hour later.

Dudley was forced out of action after just 15 minutes when he was caught from behind by a poor challenge and he was replaced by Adam Griffin. A Michael Clegg cross-shot was pushed wide by the keeper a few minutes later before Bury wasted a chance, former Latics player Paul Reid wasting a header allowing Latics new Argentine signing Alejandro Strelau the opportunity to clear. Clegg shot wide for Latics on 30 minutes before Joe Doran was brought on to replace
McMenamin 10 minutes later and moments later, Doran headed wide from a left wing cross.

Into the second half, good work down the left by Adam Griffin released Joe Doran but his high cross was headed behind for a corner. Darren Sheridan was booked following a late challenge before Haining gave Latics the lead. Following Haining's goal, David Miskelly was called into action at the other end saving well with his legs.

Joe Doran laid Haining's 2nd goal on a plate, he latched on to a Tony Carss ball forward, beating the offside trap before advancing on the goalkeeper and slotting the ball into the path of Haining for an easy finish. There was a late scramble in the Bury goalmouth but Latics were unable to grab a 3rd goal.
