Athletic have revealed a list of the players who they were trying to get in before the transfer dealine ends on Thursday. Ronnie Moore revealed, "It's been a nightmare to be honest, we've phoned umpteen clubs. We've been trying to get Warren Feeney from Luton Town, Nick Chadwick at Plymouth Argyle, Michael Chopra at Newcastle United, and Gifton Noel-Williams who's at Burnley. Danny Graham at Middlesbrough was another one as were (Chris) Brown and (Daryl) Murphy at Sunderland because we thought we could give them games."

"I've been hanging on and seeing what we can do in midfield as well because Jim Magilton (pictured) wants this season and another year on top, so we've got to decide on that. Paul McLaren (Rotherham United) was another one as was Karl Henry at Stoke City. I've seen him play quite a lot but I've been banging on doors and been getting nowhere. Michael Cummins at Port Vale was another, but we're looking for them to come in now and for next season. Smaller squads are killing everyone in the lower divisions because you only get kids from the Premiership and Championship squads are carrying 24 or 25 players."

Ronnie Moore also tried to bring in his son Ian of Leeds United. Striker Moore does not currently figure in the Leeds starting line-up but their enquiry was turned down as Leeds are currently in with a shout of promotion.
