Athletic's dream died at Wigan

Athletic’s dream of automatic promotion all but died at Wigan but their confidence is still high, although snookers are now needed to go up other than through the play offs.

Iain Dowie commented, “We still haven’t made sure of the play-offs yet, but our destiny is in our own hands. A couple more points should do it and now we need a big performance at home to Swindon on Saturday. I hope Boundary Park will be packed to the rafters for that one because we’ve had a magnificent season overall. We wanted to go up automatically so we’re very disappointed but, at the end of the day, the play-offs would be a terrific achievement."

"The lads have bounced back before and I know they have it within them to bounce back again. There are big games to come, but losing at Wigan will give us even more hunger to succeed.”
