Bassett furious with performance

Dave Bassett, assistant manager at Leeds United, confessed that he was furious with the performance of the Leeds team in their New Year's loss at home to Athletic. Bassett said that Dennis Wise was so appalled that he sent his players out of the dressing room five minutes early at half-time, after being 3 goals down at the break.

Bassett said, "He was fuming and to send them out was to let the fans know we were not happy. It did at least have the effect of generating Leon Constantine's goal within seconds of the restart, but the damage had already been done and almost all of it was self-inflicted. When you play rubbish you lose games, and we were pretty rubbish."
