Better news for Winjhard

There is a slight chance that the Latics leading goalscorer, Clyde Winjhard, may yet be able to play again this season. A second specialist has indicated that although he feels that surgery may be required, it may not be as severe as it was first thought. Clyde will now undergo a five week training programme to build up the quads above his injured knee. If all goes well he may return to normal training but if surgery does become necessary, it is considered that a less invasive form will be required. Iain Dowie said, “It’s in my nature to be positive and I hope for Clyde’s sake that things work out.”

A back up policy is already in place as Dowie has offered trials to a former Cameroon International striker. Samuel Ebwea has had spells in Yugoslavia, Switzerland, Holland and Romania, where he played for Rapid Bucharest. Ebwea recently turned down a move to Real Zaragoza after a transfer fee couldn’t be agreed.
