Big game preview

Andy Ritchie brings his Barnsley team to Boundary Park tomorrow in what must be the most crucial fixture of the season. The Latics are just outside the play-offs and trail Barnsley in sixth spot by goal difference. A win for the Latics would leave their destiny in their own hands as they would just need to equal or better Barnsley and Nottingham Forest's results in the remaining games.

Latics boss Ronnie Moore has to build his players up for this one and he told the official website, "We must be positive, bright and brave. I would love to go out and play like Real Madrid, but the result is the most important thing. A draw is no good to either of us especially with Nottingham Forest breathing down our necks. It is going to be tight, there will be a big crowd and a good atmosphere and if you can't play in that then you shouldn't be in football. We got beat 4-0 at their place earlier in the season and we have a point to prove."

"We don't want them coming over here and doing a double on us. The fans were a bit vicious over there and one or two players will remember it well, I certainly do. Certain players were picked out for individual criticism, as was the manager and I didn't like it. But we have had a good season since then and we need to kick on. Make no mistake, it is going to be tough but we will be okay if we go about it in the right way. Barnsley have been in the play-off places nearly all season but are in a poor run at the moment because they are not scoring goals. That might be the pressure of being in their position all that time. I know Andy (Ritchie) well and the crowd loves him. But we have to put all that sentiment aside and make sure at ten-to-five on Saturday that we have all three points and we are the team that is back in sixth spot."

"The Easter period has always been a difficult time and if you don't pick up any points you are in big trouble. If you can take four points out of the two games then you are in with a heck of a chance. A lot will be decided over the next two games (Saturday and Bristol City on Easter Monday) because there will only be three matches left. We know what we have got to do. But I think we have the hardest run-in and always have had. If we beat Barnsley and Swansea next Saturday we will be in with a great shout."
