Blackpool still in the hunt for Vernon

Blackpool are not giving up the hope of enticing striker Scott Vernon to Bloomfield Road. Blackpool have been chasing Vernon since his successful spell on loan with them earlier on in the season. Vernon (21) is due to sign a two year deal but the Seasiders are offering midfield man Richie Wellens as bait in a proposed swop deal.

Colin Hendry, the Seasiders boss, had tried to complete a permanent move way back in October but it was rebuffed as a derisory sum was offered. Hendry has followed young Scott’s progress but as his current deal expires next month they could insist on compensation as he doesn’t qualify for a Bosman free transfer. It is believed that Wellens (25) could be used as the compensation and as Ronnie Moore needs strength in midfield don’t write off the chance of it all coming together soon, although the Latics may opt for a straight cash deal for Wellens and keep the promising Vernon. Stay tuned on this one.
