Blackpool's bid for Vernon turned down

Athletic have received a reputed £20,000 bid by Blackpool in an attempt for them to make striker Scott Vernon’s loan deal a permanent move. Over the past month Vernon has scored 3 goals in his 4 appearances for the Bloomfield Road club but their offer was based on “their success as a team” and was turned down. Vernon is under contract at Boundary Park until next July and is expected to return to Boundary Park to compete for his place but part of the agreement between the teams was that Vernon will not play in Sundays meeting of the two clubs.

Talbot said, “Colin Hendry has been in touch but there’s no way I want Scott to leave if the deal isn’t right for us. We’ve got a small squad, and I would be more than happy for him to come back here and fight for his place in the team. Maybe people got the wrong impression when he went out on loan. I wasn’t trying to get rid of Scott, I just thought he needed to get his form back.”

Scott just wants to play regular first team football and said, “It was no fun being left out of the Oldham squad, so I’ve been enjoying my time here at Blackpool. I don’t know what happens next. It has just been nice to start playing league football and scoring goals again.”
