Bookies Cautious of Table-Topping Latics

The 2008/2009 season is still very much taking shape but this hasn't prevented some of the country's top bookies reacting to Oldham's impressive start to the new campaign.

Prior to the opening-day fixture punters could place generous bids in the region of 22-1 on the Latics claiming the League 1 scalp, however, table-topping form including four wins and a draw from the opening five fixtures has elevated Sheridan's men to odds in the region of 5/2.

Elsewhere in League 1, the bookies' faith is still very much with Leicester City and Leeds United with odds in the region of 5/6 and 10/11 offered respectively. Carlisle United have racked up a stake of 11/4 to take the crown as their equally impressive start to the campaign begins to unfold. At the other end of the table struggling Crewe Alexandra and Cheltenham Town have been rewarded with their poor starts to the season with odds in the region of 66/1 each.
