Alex Bruce (pictured) has given the Latics a boost for the trip to Blackpool, having withdrawn from International duty for Northern Ireland. Bruce explained that he wanted more experience before committing himself to any International duties, and he is still unsure of which International team he wants to play for. Bruce qualifies for England, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

The FA have refused Brian Talbot’s request to withdraw Neil Kilkenny and Lee Croft due to the teams shortage of players. Mark Hughes will also be missing from the game as he will be playing for the Northern Ireland under 21 side against Scotland. An absence of three players for International duty usually means that a club can postpone their game, but the rule does not apply to loan players.

The Blackpool game would have been Crofts last game for Oldham but the call up means that his appearance against Swindon on Saturday will complete his time at Boundary Park unless a miracle happens and they are able to sign him on a permanent deal.
