Butcher snubs opportunity at Latics

Richard Butcher concludes his one month loan period at Lincoln with the game at Rochdale today. Butcher was given a torid time by the Latics supporters and was desperate to get away from Boundary Park. The Latics have refused Butcher permission to play in the FA Cup so he will be returning a week early from Sincil bank.

Butcher has made his feelings known in no uncertain terms and said, "I have to go back to Oldham on Monday morning, which I'm very disappointed about. Lincoln want to bring a striker in on loan and, as they are paying my wages while I'm here, that has proved to be a bit of a stumbling block. When I came back to Lincoln Ronnie told me it was not a permanent deal. He just wanted me to go away for a month and re-build my confidence. But I've always said I want to come to Lincoln permanently. I have my own opinions about what went on in the early part of the season at Oldham and I don't think I deserved the abuse I received."

"Returning to Lincoln has helped regain confidence because I'm around people who appreciate me. Now I've got to go back to Oldham and sit in their reserves until the transfer window re-opens in January. The transfer window has worked against me on this occasion, but I would love to be back at Sincil Bank at the earliest opportunity. Keith (Alexander) knows where I am if he wants me, but not being able to move now will perhaps allow me to sort out a few things in Oldham. Even if I go straight back into their first team it would take something extra special for me to remain with them in the future."

"As I've said before, it is Lincoln all the way for me. I turned down Scunthorpe and Bournemouth when I moved on loan to Lincoln because it is the place I want to be. It is hard to regret moving to Oldham because I didn't expect what happened. But I always questioned whether I was doing the right thing leaving Lincoln in the first place. I left on good terms and my heart is at Sincil Bank. Hopefully things can be sorted out and I can return on a permanent basis in January."
