Carlisle preview

Athletic's opponents Carlisle United parted company with manager Neil McDonald earlier this week. The dismissal was suspicious with all kinds of rumours abounding. It did not affect their progress in the Carling Cup cup though as they went on to win 1-0 at Bury on Tuesday night.

Latics manager John Sheridan told the official website, "That's a funny one. It's very early in the season for someone to get sacked, but it doesn't bother me. It's got nothing to do with me and I'll be concentrating on my own team. We'll be in for a hard game, Carlisle are a good footballing side, but if we go into the game with the right attitude and belief we can come away with a win. We should have won up there last season and I was very disappointed when they scored late on."

"Now it's a different sason and we'll be looking for another win to carry on the little run we're on. I'm happy with two wins out of two, but we can play better. I'm a perfectionist and I want a standard set whereby there's a lot of quality in our play. I want people talking about how good we are. The quality could be improved, but I can't grumble as we've scored six goals in two games. I just want players to keep improving. If something's wrong I will let them know ever if we are three or four one up. That's the way I am."
