Latics manager David Dunn is hoping to bring in a commanding centre-back, a role so vitally needed. Players will need to leave before monies will be released to bring any new players in.
Dunn admitted, “We need a real dominating man at the back, that organises and demands the resilience we need from those around him. But we aren’t the only ones looking for that. The issue we will have is, everyone wants a player like that. We have got to be more resilient in both boxes. We are creating chances, but I want us to just anticipate a bit more and be more solid at the back. How often have we said we want a really dominant centre-back? Are there any out there? I am sure there are but we will have to work really hard with our budget to get the right one in.”
