Cercle Brugge game off

Athletic's friendly game against Cercle Brugge which was scheduled for today has been cancelled. The game was to be played behind closed doors in Blackburn but the Belgian side wanted to change the kick-off time at very short notice but the club has refused the time switch.

Alan Hardy commented, "We are very disappointed that the club have had to take this course of action so soon before the game. The game was already arranged and the revised kick-off time proposed by Brugge was completely unacceptable and was rejected. The coaching staff now have different plans in place for tomorrow. I would like to stress that Blackburn Rovers - who kindly agreed to host the game at their training ground - are totally blameless in this and we thank them for their support."

The team do have their first friendly at Rhyl tomorrow and it is expected that John Sheridan will name a strong squad for the visit to North Wales.
