Chaddy/Rocky debate surfaces yet again

The Latics continue to try to sway supporters to move to the Rochdale Road end of the ground by offering a voting scheme to try to help convince them. The venture is set up jointly between the club and the Oldham Chronicle and the news is that “hundreds” of votes have been cast which is hardly convincing. The outcome is currently in favour of staying in the spiritual Chaddy End but only by a 55-45% split.

Sean Jarvis said, “It’s very close, which is what we expected based on our early feedback. Indications at the moment are that fans are marginally in favour of sticking with the Chaddy, but that may change over the summer. We are still in talks with supporters because we want to build up a clear picture of everybody’s opinion – the Chaddy means a lot to people, while the Rocky has its commercial advantages. As many tactics as possible will be used to do this, and the vote is our best way of gathering widespread views.”

The club have already promised supporters that they will honour Chaddy End season tickets for the coming season but the pretence that the supporters will decide will probably come to nothing as a proposed switch will likely take place next year irrespective of the results of any voting scheme.
