Chaytow to inject £50,000

A club official confessed that unless a serious investor is found within the next two weeks, it could be curtains for Athletic. New Chairman Barry Chaytow (pictured) is to inject a sum of £50,000 into the club to help them through the next crucial few weeks. Athletic need to convince the football league officials that they can complete the season, and without this type of commitment the historic Latics may have played their last game at Boundary Park. On the other hand, immediate survival may encourage serious investors to consider a longer type relationship.

Mr. Chaytow also hopes to buy back the Boundary Park ground and developed part of the land for housing which would earn the club around £1million by selling it back to them at a reduced price. Failure to convince the authorities that Athletic have the where-with-all to compete could mean that their fixtures would be suspended, with obvious consequences.
