The FA have granted triallist defender Steve Howey International clearance to play in the reserve fixture on Wednesday (2:00pm kick off, weather and ground permitting). The game will probably take place at Hyde United’s ground, Ewen Fields, in what is a home fixture against Bury. If Howey can make it through the game he would be eligible to turn out for the senior squad. The experienced Howey (33) won four England caps and made over 300 appearances for Newcastle, Manchester City, Leicester and Bolton.

Brian Tablot told the Oldham Chronicle, “Steve is more than happy to prove himself in the reserves, which shows his determination to do well here. Obviously he has a good pedigree, so let’s see what he can do – so far he has looked very good.”

Another triallist, Manchester City’s Darryl Proffitt, is also due to turn out for the reserves. The 19 year old youngster is a friend of Lee Croft but has not yet made an appearance in City’s first team and would be available on a free transfer if he could prove himself.
