Club issues a statement on Branston

Guy Branston has disappointed the club by going public with his contract offer. They have attempted to put the record straight so that the supporters are not mislead by issuing a statement, not a usual occurance in these usually private matters.

The club announced: "When Branston joined the club in February 2005 he had negotiated a settlement on his contract with his previous club Sheffield Wednesday. Oldham Athletic were not party to these discussions. He negotiated, through his agent, a contract with Oldham Athletic, which ran until June 2006. His basic salary has not changed since his signing in 2005. Although there has been a reduction in the players' wage budget for next season, Branston was offered the same deal which he was happy to sign in 2005. His basic salary is six times higher than the basic salary of some of the young professionals who have played in the First Team this season and on top of this he would get bonuses in line with other players. His current basic salary is also in line with the majority of the professionals at the club."

Rather puts paid to his previous gripe, doesn't it?
