Corazzin honoured

Carlo Corazzin missed last Saturday's home game with Port Vale due to International duty with Canada. Corazzin was named team captain for Canada for the first time in the match against Estonia.

He spoke of the difficult decision to choose Canada ahead of the Latics, “It's always a difficult decision, but anybody that's known me over the years knows I've always said it's an honour to play for your country and I would never turn them down. Obviously there have been times that I have chosen to stay and play for my club team ahead of going to play for Canada but Saturday was a different decision. I had spoken to the gaffer, he had said clearly he was going to go with Wayne and Clyde up front so my response to him was I'd like to go and play for Canada because I know I'm going to get a game and that was the decision. We played in Estonia. We ended up losing 2-1. I played 75 minutes and I’d like I say it was different."

"It was another great experience representing my country. I got the honour to captain my country. It was the first time and it's always very special. They gave me my jersey after the game and my armband and I think they're going to frame it up for me. It's been a long time coming, I've played 57 times for Canada and most of the time I’ve always been the youngest one around but now as the years have gone by I'm one of the more senior ones and they gave
me the armband and it was a great, great honour. Obviously the fact that my contract is up here in the summer and a lot is in limbo in the sense of where I'll be and where I'll be playing next year. Nothing's been said at the club here yet."

Hopefully playing for Canada will keep me in shape and keep me ready for next year. The word coming out of the gaffer's office is that he can't tell any of us what's going on but it doesn't make it easier for us that have families and
mortgages to pay and things to worry about, just like the everyday person out there. I think there's going to come a point where the club has to stand up and say yea or nay to us and at least give us the option to know where our future
lies and what the situation is. Obviously until then you just keep going and working hard and hope that when they do tell us it's yes we want to keep you.”

Canada will play Germany in June as part of their preperations for this summer’s CONCACAF Championships in the USA and Mexico in July. Carlo is looking forward to being involved but he is still unsure where his future lies.
