Cross in running

David Cross, Athletic's reserve-team boss with responsibilities at senior level, has come to the forefront in the running to be Iain Dowie's number two. Dowie thinks highly of Cross, who played briefly for Athletic in the 1980's and has also coached the youth team, and the appointment could make financial sense for the Latics.
