Crossley struggles on

Goalkeeper Mark Crossley struggled with injury throughout the 1-1 draw at Cheltenham Town. He fell to the floor after only five minutes of the game and the Latics new physio, Matt Jenkinson, had to rush to his aid. The keeper had his thigh heavily strapped, and with no reserve keeper on the bench, he had to completed the rest of the game in some discomfort. He was unable to take the dead ball kicks which his defensive colleagues did for him.

With only youngsters Josh Ollerenshaw and Josh Bell in reserve, and neither of them on the subs bench, Crossley had to play on in considerable pain.

Manager John Sheridan confessed, "It's not quite clear what he's done. His thigh is either tight or he's pulled the muscle which is unfortunate, but we're lucky he could stay on the pitch. Thankfully we've now got a bit of a break so we can see how he is."

Backup keeper Les Pogliacomi is still ruled out until Christmas following his knee surgery so it might mean that Sheridan will be forced to bring in more cover, possibly on loan. He went on, "I'd have loved to have brought someone in as soon as Les got injured, but circumstances dictate otherwise. We'll have to have a look at Mark and see how he is. If the injury is serious then I will have to get someone in."
