Craig Davies netted a hat-trick in the reserves 5-3 victory over Stockport County at Boundary Park in the Manchester Senior Cup on Wednesday night. The 21 minute blast will put pressure on Lee Hughes and Lewis Alessandra and will also give manager John Sheridan food for thought as he sets about selecting his starting line up for the visit of Huddersfield Town on Saturday.Davies was sent off at Rochdale in the Carling Cup and sufferd a three match ban as well as finding himself out of the first team list when he returned from his ban. He returned as substitute and played part of the game at Hartlepool last week.
Matty Wolfenden opened the scoring and recent signing Richie Byrne also found the back of the net as he had a 60 minute run out in the game.
Athletic have won all three group games so far in the Manchester Senior Cup.
The Latics have been drawn away to Blackburn Rovers in the Lancashire Senior Cup in a tie to be played at Morecambe on Tuesday, November 11th. at 7:00pm.
