If Kevin Maher wants to be an Athletic player then he must make up his mind quickly as the club has given him a deadline to accept their contract offer. Manager John Sheridan has warned him that he will drop his interest if no deal is struck within the next two days. Swindon have now dropped thir interest in the 31 year old and Gillingham, where he has spent time on loan, appear to be the favourites as he has been doing his pre-season training with them.

Sheridan said: "We've had no response yet and I'm not going to leave it too long. He's a player I like, but I'll give it until the Derby game and then start looking elsewhere."
