Delroy and JJ to start?

Delroy Facey and Jermaine Johnson could be the surprise starting front line when the Latics visit Saltergate on Saturday for a game which could conclude the Latics search for League One safety. Luke Beckett and Chris Killen have been first choice strikers for the last seven games but Ronnie Moore is searching for a killer instinct and is also looking for the surprise element which may unsettle Chesterfield.

Moore said, “I don’t want to give anything away, but there is definitely the option of going with some pace. We’ve had it on the bench with Delroy (pictured) and JJ and I wouldn’t be afraid to change things round a bit. We could go with one striker who shows for the ball and gets flick-ons and another who wants it over the top. It’s good to have a few different choices, especially for a big game like this, and whoever plays will know they’ve got to do the business.”

Also in contention for a place is forgotton Scott Vernon who has been knocking in the goals on a regular basis for the second string but Moore said, “I don’t think a young lad like Scott is the answer at the moment. We need people with a bit more experience.” It is expected that Stefan Stam will return to the defence after his surprise dropping in the Torquay debacle which backfired heavily on the Latic’s boss.
