Didn't they do well (concluded)?

Last updated : 30 June 2005 By The Chairman
At the beginning of last season we contacted some of our fellow League One editors and asked for their pre-season previews. The aspirations for the season were, as expected, usually upbeat and full of optimism. One year later we will take at look at some of the previews and see how they shaped up. We conclude this investigation in no special order, so here we go for the last time.

Doncaster Rovers (finished 10th.)
Who knows how we’ll do, no one fancies us again and we have Paul Green. I honestly dont know enough about league 1 to predict who will go up. I still look out for the Conference scores first. I dont think any of the promoted sides will go down though as they were all so close.

The Chairman’s marks for your prediction: Lacked the necessary bottle 2/10

Sheffield Wednesday (finished fifth - won promotion through play-offs)
For the last five seasons I have been pretty optimistic but without question we will have a better season than last year. I think we will finish somewhere between 1st and 10th, closer to 10th than 1st though! But with great supporters and hopes high, we can't be too overconfident as we were surprised last season. Chris Turner promised fans that if Wednesday were not in the top three at Christmas, he would walk. I think fans last season were very unsure of him, but if we get off to a good start, he will become popular again. To answer the question of whether he will be here, I honestly don't know!

I predict: Barnsley for champions Play-offs will be Bristol City, Swindon, Hull and Tranmere
To go down Chesterfield, Brentford, Peterborough and Torquay

The Chairman’s marks for your prediction: 9/10 - Well done and congratulation on your promotion

Walsall (finished 14th.)
Hope for automatic promotion, hopes dampened however by lack of summer signings and poor pre-season results. Merse is attack-minded, inexperienced but exciting. Much publicised off-field problems have left many supporters doubting Merson's staying power.

I predict: Bristol City, Walsall, Hull, Sheff Wed

The Chairman’s marks for your prediction: Good predictions but you bottled the bottom spots. A creditable 6/10

Hope you enjoyed our little reviews!
