Dough goes mouldy

Mouldy Old Dough by Lieutenant Pigeon, Athletic's long time theme tune could be heard at Boundary Park no more due to rule changes by the Performing Rights Society. The Latics have had the song associated with the team for around 30 years and it still brings a tear to the eye of many a supporter as the team run out onto the field to the strains of the Oldham cult tune.

The Society has increased their royalty fees by a staggering 600% which means that Athletic will now need to shell out £3,900 per year as opposed to the current £700 for the rights to play the song. Alan Hardy explained the reason for the extortionate increase in the costs costs.

He informed, "The Performing Rights Society argue that the entrance music - which is played when the teams come out on to the pitch - and goal celebration music are an integral part of match-day entertainment. They classify it differently to general background music. If we simply pay for that, the figure will revert to £700 per year which we are happy to pay. At a time when we are looking at ways to save money, we cannot justify paying that amount."
