Dowie fails again

Iain Dowie has been stumped again in his bid to sign a right sided player. The player in question was twenty two year old Portugeuse striker Dani Rodrigues of Southampton. Rodrigues would have fit the bill and it was former Saints player Paul Murray who recommended the player who is available on a free. But after over a week of negotiating it now appears that Walsall have pipped Athletic at the post and he is set to join former Saints boss Dave Merrington who is now assistant to Colin Lee at Walsall.

Alan Hardy said, “Iain and myself have had numerous conversations with the player's agent over the past 10 days or so. He told us what Walsall had offered
the player and now we find out he isn't coming to Boundary Park through Teletext. We would have, at least, expected the courtesy of a call from the agent who it seems has used us as leverage in a Dutch auction. Iain is in
Northern Ireland and I have not been able to speak with him yet. But I know he will be just as annoyed as I am. He will not give up on trying to strengthen the side after he missed out on Notts County's Marcel Cas who turned down Latics bid of £150,000”.
