Dowie mentioned in talks

The name of Iain Dowie has been thrown into the list of prospective managers to take over the role at Boundary Park that John Sheridan recently vacated. Dowie is now 51 and has been out of the management scene for six years. The club has indicated that they would like to have a new boss in place next week and other new names include Accrington's John Coleman and Swansea's Alan Curtis. With a predicted budget of  under £1.3 it will be a tall order for whoever takes over the role.

Dowie got the Latics to the play-offs in 2002/03 under the backing of Chris Moore but Moore spat his dummy out and sold all the players on the cheap to recoup some of his losses when they failed to win promotion. Coleman is 53 and took Accrington to the play-offs last season but they lost out to AFC Wimbledon. Curtis is 62 and has lots of coaching experience with Swansea and was caretaker manager for a short space of time. The club have received over 100 applications for the role so time will tell, but Frankie Bunn is still the bookies' favourite.
