Dux to have a major say

Former Athletic captain Lee Duxbury will have a major say in the teams assault on League One when the new season kicks off in August. New boss John Sheridan will be assisted by Tommy Wright but Duxbury will add another dimension to the selection team. The three musketeers have a total of nearly 600 appearences between them for the Latics, a statistic that will hopefully bear fruits in the seasons to come.

Duxbury said, “Obviously Shez and Tommy are in charge, but I've been asked to have plenty of involvement with the senior side. I'll be in charge of the reserves in midweek, then on a Saturday afternoon I'll be doing the warm-up and having my say in the dressing room. That's one of the reasons Shez brought me in. He knows I won't stay in the background if I feel there's an important point to make. It's good to be back and I can't wait for training to start. Hopefully I can make my contribution to a really good season.”
