The Ched Evans saga is now finally resolved and the deal is off. After agreeing personal terms on a two-and-a-half year contract, the club have done a complete u-turn after a public outcry of dissent and after board members and their families had been personally threatened.
Two of the club sponsors, Verlin and Mecca Bingo, both threatened to withdraw sponsorship while the other sponsors, Web Developments, CM Solicitors and Optima Cars, were all happy to leave the decision up to the club.
An online petition of over 66,000 signatures against the deal was addressed to owner Simon Corney while a petition of only 2,800 signatures was for the signing. Let's hope that this is the last we hear of the embarrassing encounter.
