Still struggling for money, the Latics have received notification of the penalty imposed by the Football Association for breaching the rule of the Disciplinary Procedures for Season 2002/2003. The rule relates to six or more players being
cautioned or dismissed in the same first-team match and Athletic have been fined £2,500 for the incident in the home game against Brentford. Lee Duxbury, Julien Baudet, Chris Killen, Fitz Hall and Ben Burgess were all booked and
goalkeeper Les Pogliacomi was sent off in the game.

Later this month they must also answer a separate misconduct charge from the FA as they are accused of failing to control their players following Clint Hill’s dismissal at Colchester. The club will contest the charge. Disciplinary incidents last year cost Athletic a total of £9,500 following trouble at Tranmere, Bristol City and Blackburn Rovers.
