It could have been scripted! Just one day after the Carling Cup draw had resulted in Athletic visiting Ronnie Moore's old team Rotherham, the fixture list has thrown up an incredible opening fixture. Athletic will visit Prenton Park, the home of Tranmere Rovers, which is Moore's new team. John Sheridan will come face to face with his old boss on August 5th. in a battle for supremacy.

Port Vale are the first visitors to Boundary Park on 8th. August, then Swansea City come north on 12th. August. The next away fixture is on 19th. August when the Latics meet up with another ex-Oldhamer as WillieDonachie has just been appointed assistant manager at Millwall.

Over the Christmas and New Year period the Latics visit Rotherham on Boxing Day and then take the long trip to Gillingham just four days later before Nottingham Forest visit Boundary Park on New Year's Day. It will be at bit easier for the travelling Latics faithful over the Easter period as the Latics have been paired with Huddersfield at home and Bradford City away. The Latics conclude the season on 5th. May when Chesterfield are the visitors.
