Dave Penney has been busy in the transfer market and has completed a loan deal to bring Alex Marrow to Boundary Park from Premier League side Blackburn Rovers. Having played at Ewood Park for the last two seasons, Marrow has signed a one month deal

Another short term deal has also been announced which will bring Peter Gilbert to Oldham from Leicester City. Gilbert failed to make his mark at the Walkers Stadium after signing for £200,000 in 2005 and he was allowed to join Sheffield Wednesday the following season after having been on loan with them. He made over 30 sppearances before going on trial at Coventry City and Southend United.

Striker Darren Byfield is the third player to be taken on a short term contract. Byfield has been on trial at Athletic and has played in several of the pre-season games and manager Penney feels that he should readily fit into his plans. Assistant manager Martin Gray said, "We're delighted to have Darren on board to provide competition for places for the other forwards. He's proven at this level."

The gap left by Greg Fleming joining Scottish side Dunfermline Athletic has prompted the Latics boss to bring in a fourth short term player in Przemyslaw Kazimierczak (pictured). Penney knows Kazimierczak from his time at Darlington where he left to go home to Poland. With previous experience at Bolton Wanderers, Accrington Stanley and Wycombe Wanderers he will be brought in to put pressure on current first choice keeper Dean Brill.
