Four priorities for signings

Latics boss Lee Johnson has highlighted four main priorities for new signings for next season, including an experienced striker. With Jonathan Grounds leaving, a new first-choice left-back will be required. If David Worrall doesn't return from Rotherham he will also need to introduce a new right-sided midfielder.

The third priority depends on whether or not James Wesolowski accepts his latest contract offer. If he doesn't then Johnson will need to source a new central midfielder. The loss of Charlie MacDonald from the front line means that an experienced head will be needed to help out Jonson Clarke-Harris and Danny Philliskirk.

The £20,000 capture of Rhys Turner from Stockport has Johnson hoping of great things for the coming season. He made a couple of appearances after arrival and Johnson has seen enough to suggest that Turner has the ability to be a major player next season. Johnson commented, “We have high hopes for him, but we are not exactly sure when he will be ready for the first team. He could have a big impact.”
